After your initial connection (and import, if you've done one), sync keeps your stats up to date automatically without you needing to do anything.
How sync works
Sync periodically fetches your most recently played tracks from your streaming service and adds them to your stats.fm account. The frequency depends on your streaming service and plan:
- Spotify Plus/Pro users — synced every minute
- Apple Music Plus/Pro users — synced about every 50 minutes
- Free users — automatic sync isn't currently available on the free plan
Spotify and Apple Music only share your 50 most recent tracks at a time, so if you've been listening offline or in a long stretch without sync running, only the most recent 50 streams will be captured.
Enabling and disabling sync
You can manage sync from inside the app under Settings → Connections → Sync streams. For most users it's already enabled by default after your first import.
Duplicates
If a stream appears in both your imported data and your synced data, it's automatically deduplicated. You won't see the same stream counted twice.
If your data isn't syncing
Most sync issues are caused by:
- Sync is turned off — check in Settings → Connections
- Your streaming service connection has expired — try reconnecting Spotify or Apple Music
- A temporary issue on Spotify or Apple Music's side — usually resolves on its own within a few hours
- Free plan limitation — automatic sync isn't available on the free plan
If none of these resolve it, submit a ticket with your stats.fm username and we'll investigate.
